Ireland never stops being green, but the second-most-common colour award has to go to the golden of the gorse that covers the hillsides and peeks over walls. Gorse is everywhere. It’s beautiful, and it smells just like Coppertone sunscreen. But under those golden flowers, a gorse-bush is nothing but long, scary thorns. It spreads fast and is insanely hard to get rid of (I’ve tried, and bled to prove it). But those flowers sure are pretty from a distance.
