Georgia

January 26th, 2012

Yesterday we road tripped to Georgia where we’re staying with some good friends. In the week we’re here, we’ll get to be at four different churches! Last night kicked it off when Seth got to speak to lots of AWANA kids at a Wednesday night service. Fun times. We’re so thankful for these opportunities, and for flexible children!

Cousins

It’s been a pile of fun for Daniel and David to spend time with their cousins, even if the company does get a little heavy for Dad sometimes…

Eating In Alabama

January 11th, 2012

It’s been loads of fun having Stephen and Ilyas here with us in Alabama. We’ve definitely had some cultural moments, many of them having to do with food. On the way home from the airport, Ilyas asked for “chips” at McDonalds, and when they said they didn’t have any it took a minute to realize they are called “fries” here! The all-you-can-eat buffet was a first, Ilyas said “I’ll never need to eat again”, but Stephen asked “can we come back tomorrow?” They think American cities are very spread out, have an awful lot of restaurants, and that it’s strange that people drive everywhere, but they’ve definitely enjoyed the price and quantity of the food here. Better go now… it’s time to eat.

The Guys

January 5th, 2012

Our visit with Viki is almost over because she has to be back at Moody on Sunday, but today we’ll get two new visitors from Ireland! Stephen and Ilyas are also college students, but their college in Ireland doesn’t start back until the end of the month. We are definitely excited about getting to see them and show them around Alabama!

Alabama

January 2nd, 2012

We had a great time at “the big aquarium” (turns out, it’s actually TWO huge aquariums!) and arrived in Alabama just in time for a late Christmas with Seth’s family, and then New Years. Today is the beginning of “Grandma camp” where the cousins get together at Grandma’s house for lots of activities. It usually happens in the summer, but this is a special exception so that Daniel and David can join in the fun. By the way, if you live anywhere near Huntsville, you should swing by Seth’s folks place on Sunday afternoon for an open house so we can see you! Call us at 540-556-6263 for details.

On The Road Again

December 29th, 2011

Today Jessica’s folks are driving us down to Chattanooga, where we’ll stay the night and get to see what Daniel excitedly calls “the big aquarium”. After the fish, we’ll meet Seth’s folks who will take us the rest of the way to Alabama for the next phase of our trip. Wow, our parents are nice people!

St. Stephen’s Day

December 26th, 2011

The day after Christmas is an official holiday in Ireland, called St. Stephen’s Day. Isn’t that cool? Who wouldn’t want an extra day of Christmas to relax, play or recover? It’s not on American calenders, but we’re taking it anyway and it’s great. Hope your celebration of our saviour’s birth was wonderful as well!

“Family”

December 20th, 2011

Over the weekend Seth and Jess went up to DC (the boys had grandparent time) to pick up our “sister” Viki from the airport. Viki lived with us for a year in Ireland and now goes to university in Chicago, so we’re delighted that she could spend her Christmas break with us! After Christmas she’ll travel to Alabama with us as well, so she’ll meet both sides of the family and get to see a lot of America outside of the big city.
