In the joy of Christmas, it’s easy to brush over the horror of Matthew 2:16-20 where Herod kills all the boy babies in Bethlehem and the surrounding region. After yesterday’s news from Connecticut, we know that horror ourselves. As we celebrate Christmas in a few days, we can remember that Jesus did not come because the world was safe and nice. He came to a word broken by sin. We tend to underestimate how broken we are, but He knew the cost. He knew our sin would cost Him His life, and still He came and gave Himself freely to rescue us from our own rebellion. This is Christmas.
